Dog care tips

Dog Care Tips for Aurora Pet Owners.

Practical advice from a salon that has groomed dogs in Aurora for more than 30 years. Small habits at home make grooming visits faster, calmer, and better for your dog.

Between visits.

What you can do at home to keep your dog comfortable and the next appointment efficient.

Brush regularly

Brushing every few days prevents matting in long coated breeds. A simple slicker brush or comb works for most dogs. Pay special attention to the legs, behind the ears, and the chest.

Check ears weekly

Look for redness, debris, or odor. Long eared breeds need extra attention. If something looks off, call your vet rather than treating it at home.

Watch the nails

If you can hear nails clicking on a hard floor, they are due for a trim. Long nails can affect posture and make walks uncomfortable.

Before your appointment.

A few small things make a big difference on grooming day.

Have a recent walk

A short walk before drop-off helps your dog settle. It also gives them a chance to relieve themselves before the appointment.

Tell us what changed

If your dog has new sensitivities, takes new medication, or has had a recent injury, let us know at drop-off. We adjust handling around what is going on.

Bring the gear we need

Most dogs do not need anything beyond their regular leash. If your dog has a specific use preference or comfort item, let us know.

Plan around drop-off

Drop-off is between 7:30am and 9am. Most dogs are ready a few hours later. We will give you an estimated pick-up time when you drop off.

For nervous or senior dogs.

If your dog is anxious about grooming, the first visit matters most.

Many anxious dogs settle within a few minutes once they realize the experience is calm. We move slowly, talk quietly, and let your dog set the pace within reason.

Senior dogs may need shorter handling, more breaks, and a different position than they used at age three. We can adjust around mobility, vision, or hearing changes. Let us know what to watch for.

If your dog has a known skin condition or allergies, mention it when you call so we can plan products and time around it.
